About the speaker:

Mr. Li Xin received his Ph.D. in Electronics and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 2005, the Master’s Degree and the Bachelors Degree in electronic engineering from Fudan University in Shanghai, China in 2001 and 1998 respectively. At present, he is serving as a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University, where he leads the Institute of Applied Physics and Engineering (iAPSE); meanwhile, he is serving as the Director of the Data Science Research Center (DSRC) at Duke University at Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, China. In 2005, he co-founded Xigmix Company with others to commercialize his Ph.D. research achievements. In the company, he was functioning as CTO until 2007 when the company was acquired by Extreme DA. From 2009 to 2012, he served as Assistant Director of FCRP Focus Research Center for Circuits and Systems Solutions (C2S2) and was dedicated to designing the integrated circuit design of the next generation. His research interests cover integrated circuits, signal processing and data analysis. Dr. Li Xin is the Deputy Editor-in-chief of IEEE TCAD and also Associate Editor of IEEE TCAD, IEEE TBME, ACM TODAES, IEEE D&T and IET CPS. He once served at the Executive Committee of DAC, ACM SIGDA, IEEE TCCPS and IEEE TCVLSI. Right now, he is the Chairman of ISVLSI, iNIS and FAC, and the Technical Program Chairman of CAD/Graphics. In 2012, he was awarded NSF Career Award; in 2013 and 2016, he was awarded “IEEE Donald O. Pederson Best Paper Award” twice respectively, “DAC Best Paper Award” in 2010 and “ICCAD Best Paper Award” in 2004 and 2011 respectively, “ISIC Best Paper Award” in 2014. Besides, he was nominated by DAC, ICCAD and CICC for best paper by six times.

Content introduction:

    This presentation mainly focuses on big data analysis, which is an important area highlighting continuous growth in the past decade.It has been successfully applied to a variety of commercial applications. This lecture will introduce new statistical algorithms and methods regarding several application fields: manufacturing and automotive, etc. Among others, the machine-learning is playing an extremely important role. In the lecture, successful cases in the industry concerned will be adopted as the study cases to support and discuss technical challenges, suggested solutions and future direction. At the same time, in this lecture, Prof. Li Xin will publicize the project undertaken by Duke University at Kunshan. Duke University is one of the top universities in the United States. Duke University at Kunshan was founded by U. S. Duke University, Wuhan University and Kunshan City. ECE Master Program will be mostly recommended.
